Cracking Joints

Hi everyone, how many of you have cracking joints?
Where does it crack? I have cracking joints in my ankles, shoulders, fingers and have a clicky hip.
Sometimes the cracking sound is really loud, especially in my ankles when I stretch my legs out. The other morning I stretched and my ankle cracked so loud I actually thought I broke it as the pain shot through my foot and was like it for ages afterwards, walking was torture.
Do people look at you when they crack, my place of work is used to it now but I used to get some looks from team members.
Have you broken any bones just by your joints cracking? That is one thing I'm worried about.
Comments welcome.

It puts a damper on my ninja training. Adult relations sound like a hail storm on a tin roof. It never did hurt. It's just odd.

Everything cracks, the neck squishes and crunches, the ankle locks sometimes (that is huge pain). It's all a huge pain.

My knees crack and creak as well as my elbows. Sometimes I think other people can hear it but I'm not sure .

I just started "cracking"…LOL! In my ankles first and now my knees. When it happens inmy knees, it hurts…just for a second but it almost takes my breath away.

Yep, I have those cracking joints too. None broken though. It usually
happens in my knees & ankles but has happened in my back too. I
noticed that they feel stiff right before they crack. Hugs, marieanne -

My wife finds it funny because when I get up in the morning virtually all my joints crack. I mean it's so loud she can hear me walk down the hall. Cracking beats hurting.

Never had any broken bones but boy do I snap crackle and pop. I was in yoga yesterday and we were doing a hip stretch and I popped. It was so loud my yoga teacher looked up. I just started giggling.

My doctor told me it was air in the joints that makes the sound of cracking.
I found a article that explains the noise the joint makes, here is the article : http://www.loc.gov/rr/scitech/mysteries/joint... -

Thanks for the article. I just read it. My knees are separating, they hurt pretty bad, and the spurs on the toes, my feet hurt alot, the ankles are very weak, so I snap alot. I have osteo- every where from my neck to my toes.

I was embarrassed at first when using the cane, I don't use it all the time, but it got me to thinking, I would rather do that, than fall and break something. I believe I am getting it in 2 more toes now.

I dont snapr carck much. I have broken 26 bones. none recntly. They are stregthing my bones with
Reclast every year. It helps a lot but I'm not breakproof yet. Most were ribs and vertbre.I
broke my pelvis in 4 places that was the worst. The cracking sound is usually your ligaments
steching over the joint. At lease that was what I was told. A cane is better than a fall or a broken bone. Have a good evening! SZane -

My neck, knees, wrists, hands (fingers) ankles, hips and lower back sound like a high-powered pop corn popper most of the time. Nothing broken that way though the ankle I broke some years ago is one of the noisiest and cracks more than the other one. Sometimes they are fairly quiet and only I or anyone really close can hear them and at other times people look around when we are out to try to find out where that sound is coming from. I've even had them crack so loud that my physical therapist heard them when I was in the pool.
The noisiest episodes happen when the joint in question goes out on me - even my neck will do that at times and that's a real 'pain' as then I have little control over it's movement until I can get it to 'pop' back. This can be especially problematic when I am in a vehicle and there are a lot of turns or stops-n-starts as in a city with stop lights. Then I have to make sure my head is firmly against the head rest and at times even have to literally hold my head to keep it back against it. Docs tell me there really isn't a lot that can be done other than try to strengthen the surrounding muscles more which is part of why I am doing PT. Theory is that is my muscles are stronger they will help keep the joints from popping out as much (really more of a freeze up than actual popping out of joint but that's what the doc called it) - we'll see as I go to PT longer and do get more strength built up again.

No broken bones but my joints crack too. When I taking the steps, my knees are good at this. I always wonder if I am the only one who hears it. :-)

Hi Lana, I know my hubby hears it, as he said to me this morning it was really loud. I am glad you have not had any broken bones through it.

Others hear my ankles and knees when they do it. My neck is too stiff, it doesn't do it as much.
