I took my 14 year old boy to the childrens doctor for shots and a general check up. The dr looked at his hands and was concerned he may have some sort of arthritis. I told her I had Psoriatic arthritis.
He went to a childrens rumitoligist Jan 26 and they told me this week he had the same condition as I have, but he is not in any kind of pain or no skin flair ups.
I pray it stays that way.
He is a very good looking boy, and a general great kid. It breaks my heart he could suffer the same as I.
I have not made a big deal of his condition, but I told him how important it is to eat right and exercise Everyday even if it's only stretches.
I never thought I would pass something like this to my kids?

Watching helplessly while your child suffers is the worst thing in the world.

I know exactly how you feel. I have PsA with Spondylitis and my 9-year-old daughter has it too, they call her's JIA but it all stems from the same gene that I passed on, HLA-B27. It's a terrible feeling finding out you unknowingly passed on a genetic disease. But, medicines keep getting better every year.

I wish my doctors/province weren't so cheap and would do genetic testing. I see so much of what I have starting to show in my daughters :'( Would be great to have confirmation.

So sorry for the pain you are feeling about your son. I have PA, and my son has inherited my auto immune, but not as pa but another type of affliction.. I felt devestated that I passed it on to such a great and innocence person.. My son, all on his own has always watched his diet.. So proud of him! I can see you all ready are preparing your son for his battle witb PA.. That is wonderful, you are a good caring person.. Education is so key, you are on the right track with the exercise.. love and caring will help, im sure you arent short in that department.. lol

Sorry to hear your son has this. It is one of my greatest fears—-to have passed it on to my children or grandchildren. One day I started crying and told my 34 year old daughter. She said, "Mama, you didn't ask to get it either and I know you would never ever want us to get it. It wouldn't be your fault." Her response made me feel better although I still worry about it from time to time. I hope your son doesn't ever have any symptoms. It sounds like he has a great mom who'll be there for him if need be. I'll include you and your son in my prayers.

I think the only thing worse than managing our own conditions is the moment we learn out beloved children are going to face similar challenges. Sorry to hear your 14 year old has to face this. Having a parent who understands and can encourage as well as guide is such a blessing. Prayed that the news would draw you even closer especially at 14.
