CRITICAL COVER INSURANCE

years ago (when OA was my only Dx) I was refused because in the small co I was working for there were several people w/ serious issues already & the grp policy would not cover me for health.. only life ins. wonder if you can find a larger group to belong to..

Could it be state or insurance co specific?

I have been refused life insurance increases because of my ulcerative colitis.

thats terrible stacey we should not be discriminated just because we have some issues. Its not like we wished for this to happen. It amazes me that they can insure drug abuse users, knowing that they might overdose and yet we cant get insured.

Well I think their is a misconception that we are going to die from these diseases and that is not true. At the time I had just started a new treatment and they said that they could not consider upping my insurance. When was the last time that you heard of anyone dying from ulcerative colitis or rheumatoid arthritis, etc. They are painful diseases but not terminal.

My parents best friend and neighbor did die from ulderative colitis (unfortunately the inflammation of the colon wore a hole through several areas and he died of peritonitis, which is an infection in the abdominal cavity from leakage of the bowel into the abdomen). I've never heard of anyone dying from RA though. There for a while they wouldn't insure fibromyalgia, even though it's painful, I don't believe it's fatal. Insurance companies, especially life insurance companies, make so much money that they can pretty well do whatever they want. I think it completely sucks. There are so many people who pay exhorbatant amounts and never use the insurance that they make money no matter what. Especially the rain-makers.

its called critical illness cover, covers you if you get cancer etc
