Because you live with arthritis, you know your life is filled with challenges. While it is not always easy to determine the priority your responsibilities, management of the disease should be on the top of your list. Further, disease management isn’t a small task because it involves integrating the disease into the rest of your life. As you try to manage your pain and your disease, you are constantly searching for a way to find normalcy and normalcy has to involve “you time.” However, despite your best efforts, you never seem to make or have enough time for yourself.

Taking time for yourself is as equally important as your treatment plan. Because it is not a medication or treatment, we have a tendency to overlook its value and the time we make for ourselves. When life becomes overwhelming, this is when we need to take time for ourselves the most, and but this is often the time when we don’t take it. Interestingly enough, when we do actually take the time, we see how much better we feel. Therefore, it is so central to our physical, mental and emotional health that we make the time for ourselves.

We don’t have to spend the time doing something complex or use a lot of time doing it. All you have to do is schedule some time for yourself daily. Long or short – take the time. You can go for a walk, read a book, listen to music, treat yourself to your favorite meal, for a hobby, etc. The sky is the limit but set that time every day and take it.
